Anorectal trauma in children
1Paediatric Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria.
Objectives:
To determine the pattern and magnitude of the problem of anorectal injuries at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
Design:
Prospective cross sectional descriptive study.
Setting:
Department of Surgery, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Nigeria.
Subjects:
51 consecutive paediatric patients treated for anorectal injuries over a three year period.
Main Outcome Measures:
Mechanism of rectal injury, contributing factors, anatomic region injured, length of hospital stay, complications and outcome.
