[Splenic thrombosis and celiac disease: a fortuitous association?]

Background:
Rare cases of venous thrombosis associated with celiac disease have been reported.
Case Report:
We report a case of 40-year-old woman with splenic infarction and splenic venous thrombosis associated with celiac disease. This patient was homozygous for the C677T mutation of the methyltetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene and had moderately elevated homocysteinemia.
Discussion:
We discuss the link between celiac disease and thrombosis as well as the interest and appropriate duration of anticoagulation and hypothesize a mechanism of thrombotic disease in this setting with hyperhomocyseinemia.
