Summary

High altitude exposure significantly reduces cold-induced vasodilation (CIVD). Acclimatization over 45 days showed a tendency for stronger CIVD responses, unlike short-term exposure. No CIVD acclimatization occurred within the first 7 days at altitude.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of altitude acclimatization on cold-induced vasodilation (CIVD).
  • To compare CIVD responses between subjects with short-term and prolonged high-altitude exposure.
  • To examine longitudinal changes in CIVD during the initial week of altitude exposure.

  • Study 1: Cross-sectional comparison of CIVD in subjects exposed to high altitude for 45 days versus less than 3 days.
