Summary

Linomide, an immunomodulator, did not prevent autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice. This study found no significant difference in thyroiditis incidence between Linomide-treated and control NOD mice.

Background:

  • Linomide is a potent immunomodulator with demonstrated efficacy in preventing type 1 diabetes mellitus in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice.
  • Its proposed mechanisms include down-regulating macrophage activity and antagonizing Th1 cell activation in immune responses.
  • Previous studies suggest Linomide's potential in mitigating various autoimmune conditions in animal models.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of Linomide on the incidence of spontaneous autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) in female NOD mice.
  • To assess whether Linomide administration influences the development or severity of AIT in this model.

Main Methods:

  • Female NOD mice were administered Linomide (100 mg/kg/day) in drinking water from week 5 to 19 of age.

    • Linomide administration did not demonstrate a beneficial effect on the incidence or severity of spontaneous autoimmune thyroiditis in female NOD mice.
    • The immunomodulatory effects of Linomide may not extend to preventing autoimmune thyroiditis in this specific NOD mouse model.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate Linomide's role in autoimmune disease prevention and its mechanisms of action.
