Background:

  • Orbital lymphangioma is a congenital vascular malformation causing significant morbidity.
  • Treatment options for orbital lymphangioma are limited and often invasive.

Observation:

  • Four patients with orbital lymphangioma (two adults, two children) received systemic corticosteroid therapy.
  • Treatment duration varied from 2 days to 1 month, utilizing intravenous and/or oral routes.
  • Corticosteroids were administered alone or as an adjunct to other therapies during symptomatic exacerbations.

Findings:

  • Adult patients experienced greater relief from pain than swelling.
  • Pediatric patients showed improvement in both signs and symptoms.
  • No adverse complications were reported in any of the patients during the study period.

Implications:

  • Systemic corticosteroids represent a viable therapeutic strategy for managing orbital lymphangioma.
  • Corticosteroid therapy can accelerate symptom resolution compared to the natural disease course.
  • This approach may serve as an effective adjuvant treatment alongside surgery and other modalities for orbital lymphangioma.
