Area of Science:

  • Condensed Matter Physics
  • Quantum Materials

Background:

  • Itinerant electron systems exhibit complex phase diagrams.
  • Understanding modifications due to nesting is crucial for materials science.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a controlled weak coupling renormalization group (RG) approach.
  • To rederive and analyze the phase diagram of two-dimensional non-nested systems.
  • To investigate the impact of nesting on these phase diagrams.

Main Methods:

  • Controlled weak coupling renormalization group (RG) formalism.
  • Analysis of particle-particle and particle-hole interaction channels.
  • RG flow analysis to identify fixed points.

Main Results:

Related Experiment Videos

  • Successfully rederived the phase diagram for 2D non-nested systems.
  • Demonstrated that nesting introduces competition between interaction channels.
  • Identified an unstable precursor fixed point in the RG flow.
  • Conclusions:

    • The identified precursor fixed point is experimentally measurable.
    • This phenomenon may explain pseudogaps in high-temperature superconductors as a crossover effect.
