Summary

A rare solid-calcified colloid cyst in the third ventricle was successfully removed. The anterior transcallosal-transforaminal surgical approach preserved neural and vascular structures.

Background:

  • Colloid cysts are typically benign intracranial tumors.
  • Third ventricle colloid cysts can cause obstructive hydrocephalus.
  • Solid-calcified colloid cysts are exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A 65-year-old female presented with a third ventricle lesion.
  • Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a solid-calcified colloid cyst.
  • The cyst was located in the third ventricle.

Findings:

  • The solid-calcified colloid cyst was surgically excised.
  • The anterior transcallosal-transforaminal approach was utilized.
  • Complete preservation of surrounding neural and vascular structures was achieved.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare presentation of a colloid cyst.
  • The anterior transcallosal-transforaminal approach is a viable option for third ventricle lesions.
  • Successful surgical resection with preservation of critical structures is achievable.
