Summary

Mucin deposition, though uncommon, can present unusually in dermatomyositis patients. Recognizing these atypical skin lesions is crucial for accurate diagnosis and management of dermatomyositis.

Observation:

  • Two cases of dermatomyositis with unusual mucinosis presentations are detailed.
  • Case 1: Symmetrical plaques on upper limbs with violaceous papules.
  • Case 2: Linear papules on palms and fingers in a long-standing dermatomyositis case.

Findings:

  • Skin biopsies confirmed epidermal changes of dermatomyositis and dermal mucin deposition in both patients.
  • Histopathology revealed varying degrees of epidermal changes alongside mucin deposition.
