Background:

  • Traumatic aneurysms are rare but life-threatening vascular injuries.
  • Closed head injuries can precipitate the development of delayed aneurysms.

Observation:

  • A 72-year-old male sustained a motorcycle accident with a closed head injury.
  • Initial CT revealed subarachnoid hemorrhage; a subsequent CT showed a large temporal lobe hematoma.
  • Autopsy confirmed a false aneurysm of the right proximal M2 artery.

Findings:

  • Serial imaging demonstrated the development of a post-traumatic false aneurysm.
  • Histological examination confirmed the nature of the aneurysm as false.

Implications:

  • Delayed diagnosis of traumatic aneurysms is associated with high mortality.
  • Prompt surgical management is essential for improving survival rates in patients with traumatic aneurysms.
