Summary

Fetal echocardiography aids in diagnosing congenital heart disease early. While in utero cardiac repair is not yet feasible, research shows potential for future interventions to correct heart malformations.

Background:

Fetal echocardiography has significantly advanced the understanding of congenital heart disease.
Early diagnosis of malformed hearts is possible within weeks of development.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the potential of in utero interventions for congenital heart disease.
To assess the feasibility of altering abnormal heart growth patterns during fetal development.

Main Methods:

Serial echocardiographic studies were used to observe fetal heart development.
Analysis of primary lesions in early heart development was conducted.

Main Results:

Complex congenital heart diseases may arise from simple, early developmental lesions.
These early lesions might be targets for future in utero interventions.

Conclusions:

While fetal cardiac intervention is not currently a therapeutic option, it holds future potential.
Ongoing research supports the concept of in utero cardiac repair for critical congenital heart disease.
