Area of Science:

  • * Astronomy and Astrophysics
  • * Interstellar Medium Studies

Background:

  • * Diffuse Interstellar Bands (DIBs) are absorption features observed in the spectra of reddened OB stars.
  • * Their widespread presence suggests stable and abundant molecular carriers in space.
  • * Substructures in DIB line profiles hint at a gas-phase molecular origin.

Purpose of the Study:

  • * To investigate the nature of DIB carriers by analyzing line profile substructures.
  • * To compare the velocity structure of the lambda 6613 angstroms DIB with known atomic species.
  • * To study 6 targets within the Perseus OB2 association.

Main Methods:

  • * High-resolution spectroscopy was employed to analyze DIB line profiles.
  • * Comparative analysis of the lambda 6613 angstroms DIB profile against NaD1 and CaII profiles.

Related Experiment Videos

  • * Examination of velocity structures in spectral lines.
  • Main Results:

    • * The study compared the velocity structure of the lambda 6613 angstroms DIB with NaD1 and CaII profiles.
    • * Analysis was conducted on 6 specific targets in the Perseus OB2 association.
    • * Observed velocity structures provide clues to the physical conditions and carrier properties.

    Conclusions:

    • * Line profile studies are crucial for understanding the nature of DIB carriers.
    • * Comparing DIBs with atomic lines aids in characterizing their molecular origins.
    • * Further research on DIB velocity structures can illuminate their composition and distribution.
