Area of Science:

  • Theoretical physics
  • Quantum field theory
  • Noncommutative geometry

Background:

  • Noncommutative field theory (NCFT) offers a framework for quantum gravity and high-energy physics.
  • The implications of Lorentz symmetry within NCFT are not fully understood.
  • Standard Model extensions are crucial for probing physics beyond the Standard Model.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the role and implications of Lorentz symmetry in noncommutative field theory.
  • To establish the physical equivalence between realistic NCFTs and a specific class of Standard Model extensions.
  • To discuss the theoretical consequences and experimental constraints arising from this equivalence.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of Lorentz symmetry in the context of noncommutative field theory.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Establishing a physical equivalence between NCFT and a general Lorentz-violating Standard Model extension.
  • Reviewing existing experimental data to constrain parameters.
  • Main Results:

    • Any realistic noncommutative theory is shown to be physically equivalent to a subset of a general Lorentz-violating Standard Model extension.
    • This equivalence provides a new perspective on the interplay between noncommutativity and Lorentz invariance.
    • Existing experimental constraints place the scale of the noncommutativity parameter at approximately (10 TeV)^(-2).

    Conclusions:

    • The study establishes a direct link between noncommutative field theories and Lorentz-violating extensions of the Standard Model.
    • This connection offers a pathway to probe noncommutativity using established experimental techniques for Lorentz violation.
    • Future research can explore further theoretical consequences and refine experimental bounds.
