Abstract:
The present work is based on the lecture notes from the year 1812/1813 of the medical student Johann Baptist Huber. The lectures on ophthalmology, otology, and dentistry were given by the zurich hospital physician Johann Ludwig Meyer at the Institute of Medicine and Surgery in Zurich. The main part of this dissertation contains the exact transcription of Huber's lecture notes, where only orthography and punctuation have been changed; these changes were made according to the present German grammar. Short biographies of the student Huber and the lecturer Meyer are also given. A brief overview on the history of ophthalmology, otology, and dentistry is given separately. The didactical and medical aspects of Meyer's lecture are discussed. Important medical methods of the time have been highlighted and compared with modern mainstream medicine.
