Background:

  • Tourette's syndrome (TS) is linked to altered basal ganglia and functional asymmetry.
  • Previous research indicates atypical performance on visuospatial tasks in TS, including line bisection.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the lateralization of visuospatial attention in children diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome.
  • To determine if an irrelevant moving visual stimulus affects line bisection judgments in TS.

Main Methods:

  • Nine children with Tourette's syndrome and nine age/sex/IQ-matched controls participated.
  • Participants performed line bisection tasks with blank or moving random-dot backgrounds.
  • Stimulus conditions included varying dot movement direction and speed.

  • Children with Tourette's syndrome showed a significant rightward bias in line bisection.
