Summary

Tourniquet use during knee arthroscopy causes temporary neutrophil and monocyte activation. This leads to increased neutrophil migration, potentially causing tissue injury from reperfusion.

  • To assess monocyte and neutrophil activation and transendothelial migration (TEM).

  • Prospective randomized study comparing tourniquet vs. no tourniquet groups during knee arthroscopy.
  • Monitored monocyte/neutrophil activation, TEM, and cytokine levels (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-10).
