Zygomatic fixtures--the Sydney experience
Abstract:
The atrophic maxilla and associated unretentive and unstable full denture provide a tremendous challenge for the restorative clinician. Bone grafts have allowed the introduction of osseointegrated dental implants into the management of such cases but many patients are unable or unwilling to undergo the rigours of the bone grafting procedure. The placement of zygomatic fixtures in combination with routine implants in the anterior maxilla now allows the provision of a fixed maxillary restoration for patients in a shorter treatment time and with less morbidity. This paper details the results of five patients treated using this technique.
