Water or antiseptic for periurethral cleaning before urinary catheterization: a randomized controlled trial

Periurethral cleaning with antiseptic before urinary catheter insertion did not reduce bacteriuria rates. Water cleansing is as effective as chlorhexidine for preventing urinary tract infections in obstetric patients.
