[MRI features of confusable tumors of orbital apex]

Objective:
To analyze magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of confusable tumors including cavernous hemangioma, cavernous lymphangioma and neurilemmoma located at orbital apex, which could provide evidences for diagnosis and surgical treatment.
Methods:
MRI was performed on 16 cases with tumors of orbital apex confirmed by pathology, and their MRI findings were analyzed.
Results:
The time taken to attain complete enhancement after contrast on MRI was significantly different in the three types of tumor (P < 0.01) Their enhancement patterns were related to their pathologic findings.
Conclusions:
The different enhancement patterns of various tumors of orbital apex are characteristic for diagnosis and differential diagnosis.
