    Summary

    Specific airway conductance (SGaw), maximum mid expiratory flow (MMEF), and closing volume (CV) best detect exercise-induced airway obstruction in asthmatic boys. Flow-volume curves are sensitive but depend on MMEF and SGaw changes.

    Background:

    • Exercise can exacerbate airway obstruction in asthmatic individuals.
    • Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) are used to assess airway caliber changes.
    • The sensitivity of various PFTs in detecting post-exercise airway obstruction requires further comparison.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the efficacy of multiple PFTs in identifying airway obstruction post-exercise.
    • To investigate the relationship between traditional PFTs and flow-volume parameters after exercise in asthmatic children.

    • Two studies were conducted involving asthmatic boys undergoing treadmill exercise.
