Abstract:
Two adult medical-surgical units in a large university hospital challenged the value of performing gastric occult blood testing in the acute care setting. As a result of their investigational findings, gastric occult blood testing was eliminated. Nursing time and patient care dollars were spent more efficiently, without compromising patient outcomes.
