[Hysterectomy--a time for reappraisal]

Purpose of the Study:

• To analyze hysterectomy trends by age, indication, and surgical method.
• To evaluate the period between 1994-1998 at the Higher Medical Institute-Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

• Retrospective analysis of 1352 hysterectomy cases.
• Data collected on patient age, reasons for surgery, and surgical techniques.

• Uterine myoma was the most frequent indication (50.3%).
• The highest incidence occurred in women aged 45-49.
• Vaginal hysterectomy rate was low (4.6%).
• Oophorectomy alongside hysterectomy for benign conditions was frequent.
