Testing a risk assessment tool for manual handling
1Birchdale Clinic, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.
Abstract:
Nurses may be reluctant to use safer methods of manual handling or equipment because they are time-consuming or because patients dislike using hoists. Injuries can be prevented only if the organisation takes an ergonomic approach to risk reduction. A risk assessment tool may help nurses recognise the dangers of certain lifts and encourage them to assess the situation thoroughly before moving or handling a patient.
