Primary colon lymphomas (PCL) are rare gastrointestinal tumors. Surgical treatment with adjuvant chemotherapy offers favorable outcomes for patients with cecum PCL.

Area of Science:

  • Gastrointestinal Oncology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Primary colon lymphomas (PCL) are exceptionally rare, accounting for 0.2-0.5% of all primary colon tumors.
  • These lymphomas predominantly affect the adult population and are typically non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, necessitating exclusion of nodal origin.

Observation:

  • This report details two cases of primary cecum lymphoma.
  • Patients presented with abdominal pain, a palpable mass, and hemorrhage.

Findings:

  • Both patients underwent extended right hemicolectomy with ileum-transverse anastomosis.
  • Adjuvant chemotherapy was administered, resulting in disease-free survival at 1.5 and 5 years post-treatment.

Implications:

  • The cecum is a frequent site for primary colon lymphomas.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Surgical resection combined with adjuvant chemotherapy is the recommended treatment strategy for PCL, improving patient survival.
