[History of psychiatric care]

Theoretical-reflective study aimed to comprehend psychiatric assistance by analysing, from a historical perspective, the different conceptions and tendencies which culminated with the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform. The authors question the different trends occurring in health assistance, since the country is facing a period of ideological, structural and political transformations in terms of Mental Health actions, which point to possible changes in the present psychiatric care model.
