Summary

Genomic research reveals that both eukaryotic and prokaryotic genomes are structured as linear arrays of uniform-sized units, approximately 400 base pairs. These units, possibly ancient DNA circles, fused to form segmented genomes, a structure maintained by evolutionary pressures.
