[Acute appendicitis on crural hernia]

Introduction:
Acute appendicitis in femoral hernia is an uncommon condition that can be serious.
Observation:
We report the case of a 60 year-old woman presenting with an acute appendicitis in a right femoral hernia. The diagnosis was made at the time of surgery. The appendectomy was performed through the hernial sac, followed by parietal treatment of the hernia. The post-surgical course was uneventful.
Discussion:
Inflammation of the appendix may arise secondary to constriction in the hernial sac. It occurs most frequently in postmenopausal women and in the right groin. The preoperative diagnosis is difficult, so complications such as abscess have been reported. Appendectomy is performed easily.
Conclusion:
Awareness of this condition may help to avoid the usual delay in diagnosis.
