Abstract:
Based on the reaction mechanism of bioreductive alkylating agents, we designed and synthesized five benzoquinone derivatives with active bromine on the side chain. Those compounds showed a specific inhibitory activity on succinate-ubiquinone reductase, but not on ubiquinone-cytochrome c reductase. The results indicate clearly that the inhibitory activity of the inhibitors was related directly to the bioreduction, but not to the biooxidation. The inhibitory activity also depended on the activity of bromine and the molecular structure.
