Summary

Activated factor XIII (FXIIIa), a transglutaminase, stabilizes blood clots by crosslinking fibrin and incorporating inhibitors. Assays for FXIIIa activity, concentration, and the FXIIIVal34Leu polymorphism are reviewed.
