Area of Science:

  • Thoracic Surgery
  • Pulmonary Medicine
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Primary tracheobronchial nonbronchogenic carcinomas are rare tumors.
  • These neoplasms can mimic asthmatic symptoms, leading to respiratory distress.
  • Diagnosis and management present significant challenges, particularly concerning anesthetic considerations.

Observation:

  • This report details the experience with primary tracheobronchial nonbronchogenic tumors at a community hospital.
  • Cases include a tracheal tumor during pregnancy, a tracheobronchial tumor cast, and a carinal resection.
  • Patients requiring surgical intervention were evaluated and treated.

Findings:

  • Surgical resection was performed in selected cases.
  • All patients who underwent resection achieved favorable outcomes.
  • Long-term survival was observed in all resected patients.

Implications:

  • Community hospitals can effectively manage rare tracheobronchial tumors.
  • Surgical intervention is a viable option with good long-term prognosis.
  • Further research into anesthetic management for these specific cases is warranted.
