Laparoscopic cholecystectomy may cause a less significant systemic immune response compared to open surgery. This study compared immune markers after both procedures, finding differences in specific immune responses post-cholecystectomy.

  • Serum levels of soluble Fas (sFas), soluble L-selectin (sL-selectin), and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGFbeta1) were measured preoperatively and at 2 hours, 1 day, and 2 days postoperatively.
