    Background:

    • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease with diverse clinical presentations.
    • Neurological manifestations (NMs) are common in SLE but their specific impact and diagnostic challenges require further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To analyze the prevalence, characteristics, and outcomes of neurological involvement in patients with SLE.
    • To identify factors associated with neurological manifestations and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 80 patients with SLE over a 10-year period.
    • Review of patient records for neurological symptoms, diagnostic investigations, treatment, and survival rates.

    Main Results:

    • 51% of SLE patients exhibited neurological manifestations.
    • Nervous system involvement was more common in Black patients and associated with higher incidence of renal failure and worse 10-year survival.
    • Hypoglycorrhachia was observed in 4 patients, suggesting potential pathogenetic significance. Specific neurological investigations were often unhelpful.

    Conclusions:

    • Neurological manifestations significantly impact SLE patient prognosis, particularly in Black individuals.
    • Diagnostic challenges persist for central nervous system involvement in SLE.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate the pathogenesis and optimize treatment for SLE-related neurological complications.
