[Mechanism of B2-agonists action and safety aspects]
Abstract:
Review presents basic mechanisms of molecular interaction between beta 2-adrenoreceptor and its agonists. Practical aspects of differences in pharmacokinetic profiles of short and long acting beta-agonists are analysed with special attention paid to selected clinical situations when their therapeutic potential might be affected and risk of side effect increased.

Aromatic ring substitutions: Substituting the aromatic ring with –OH groups at positions 3 and 4 yields catecholamines (e.g., epinephrine), which have a high affinity for adrenoceptors. Hydrogen bonding between –OH groups and receptors enhances adrenergic activity.

One class of bronchodilators includes β2-adrenoceptor agonists. These agents target the β2-adrenoceptors located on bronchial smooth muscle cells. By stimulating these receptors, β2-agonists induce relaxation in these...
