The mitochondrial ribosomal protein S2 (RPS2) gene is found in monocot plant mitochondria but not dicots. In dicots like Arabidopsis, RPS2 is nuclear-encoded, and maize has two transcribed mitochondrial RPS2 genes with unique extensions.
