Black grain mycetoma--2 case reports.

Summary

Two cases of black grain mycetoma, caused by Madurella grisea and Madurella mycetomii, presented with less severe symptoms and no bone involvement compared to actinomycotic mycetoma. These represent the initial documented instances from our institution.

Background:

Mycetoma is a chronic fungal infection.
Black grain mycetoma is caused by specific fungal species.
Understanding clinical presentations is crucial for diagnosis.

Observation:

Two cases of black grain mycetoma were reported.
One case was caused by Madurella grisea.
The other case was caused by Madurella mycetomii.

Findings:

Clinical features were less severe than actinomycotic mycetoma.
No bone involvement was observed in either case.
These are the first reported cases of black grain mycetoma from this institution.

Implications:

Highlights the variable clinical spectrum of mycetoma.
Suggests distinct clinical behavior of Madurella species compared to actinomycotic agents.
