Summary

Patients generally have a positive experience with rubber dam (RD) use in dental treatments and prefer its use in future appointments. Operator experience, however, influences patient preference and perception of RD.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To objectively record patient experiences with rubber dam (RD) use.

  • Data from 206 completed questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS, including cross-tabulations and chi-square analysis.

  • RD placement is typically a brief procedure.
  • Increased operator experience enhances patient compliance with RD.
