  • Understanding ethnic and gender disparities in physical activity is crucial for targeted interventions.
  • College students represent a key demographic for addressing long-term health behaviors.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare physical activity patterns across diverse ethnic groups of college students.
  • To identify the prevalence of physical inactivity among male and female college students.
  • To examine factors influencing physical activity levels in this population.

Main Methods:

  • Cross-sectional study involving 2,836 college students (Asian, African, White, Hispanic American).
  • Self-report questionnaires assessed physical activity, weight-training, youthful physical activity, and TV viewing.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Statistical analysis used to determine physical inactivity rates and factors influencing activity levels.
  • Main Results:

    • 46.7% of students did not meet vigorous physical activity recommendations; 16.7% were physically inactive.
    • Higher rates of physical inactivity were observed in Asian and Hispanic American women compared to White women.
    • Weight-training, youthful physical activity, and TV viewing significantly explained variance in physical activity levels for both genders.

    Conclusions:
