Summary

This study reports a successful radical wide resection and anterolateral thigh flap reconstruction for advanced gingival and buccal squamous cell carcinoma. The patient experienced an uneventful recovery with no flap complications or fistula formation.

Background:

Advanced squamous cell carcinoma (T4N1M0) of the left gingival and buccal mucosa presents significant surgical challenges.
Radical resection and neck dissection are standard treatments for such advanced oral cancers.

Observation:

A 64-year-old Japanese male patient underwent a radical wide resection.
A left radical neck dissection was performed concurrently.
An anterolateral thigh flap (15 x 8 cm) was utilized for reconstruction of the defect.

Findings:

The surgical procedure was completed successfully.
The anterolateral thigh flap demonstrated excellent viability postoperatively.
The patient experienced an uneventful recovery, with no instances of flap necrosis, infection, or cervical fistula.
