Single suture synostosis and intracranial hypertension

It is difficult to determine the incidence and importance of intracranial hypertension in children with single suture synostosis. A review of the literature suggested that some number of affected children have high intracranial pressure. The incidence of cognitive disability also appears to be high in this population. Currently, it cannot be proven that the intracranial hypertension seen in these children causes the cognitive dysfunction or that, for the group as a whole, surgical intervention alters cognitive outcome.
