Summary

Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) have shorter small bowel (SB) length than the general population. SB length does not predict CD complications or surgical relapse, but other factors do.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare jejunoileal length in Crohn's disease (CD) patients versus the general population.
  • To determine if SB length correlates with CD complications and surgical outcomes.
  • To identify prognostic factors for surgical recurrence in CD.

  • Prospective study measuring SB length during surgery in 93 CD patients and 92 controls.
  • SB length measured prior to bowel resection.
