Retroperitoneal teratoma: historical review

A case of retroperitoneal teratoma in an unusual location is presented. The tumor occurred in the right iliac fossa of a 17-year-old girl and proved fatal within 18 months, despite a seemingly adequate initial operation. The literature on the subject has been reviewed from an historical perspective.
