Summary

This study reports the first known case of megadolichobasilar (MDB) anomaly associated with ulcerative colitis (UC), presenting as ischemic stroke. Anticoagulant treatment led to neurological stability in this unique patient.

Background:

  • Megadolichobasilar (MDB) is a rare basilar artery anomaly causing neurological issues like stroke.

  • Neuroimaging revealed an incompletely thrombosed MDB with a distal aneurysm.

  • Anticoagulant therapy was initiated for the MDB and aneurysm.
  • The patient achieved neurological stability following treatment.

Implications:

  • This is the first reported association between MDB and UC.
  • The findings prompt discussion on the etiological interplay and clinical impact of this rare combination.
