Background:

  • Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) can precede connective tissue disease (CTD) by years.
  • Understanding the genetic factors associated with RP is crucial for early diagnosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the distribution of histocompatibility (HLA) antigens in patients with RP.
  • To determine if HLA antigen frequencies differ between RP patients with and without CTD.
  • To assess the predictive value of HLA-B8 for CTD development in RP patients.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of HLA antigen distribution in RP patients with and without CTD.
  • Comparison of HLA-B8 frequencies in RP patients versus the general Dutch population.
  • Longitudinal observation of CTD development in RP patients with and without HLA-B8.

  • HLA-B8 may serve as a predictive marker for CTD development in individuals with RP.
