Summary

Neurobrucellosis can cause chronic meningitis and acute flaccid paralysis in children. Prompt diagnosis via brucellar serology and treatment with antimicrobials are crucial for recovery.

Background:

Neurobrucellosis is a rare but serious complication of Brucella infection.
It can mimic other central nervous system infections, leading to diagnostic challenges.

Observation:

An 11-year-old boy presented with a complex neurological condition.
Initial symptoms included chronic meningitis progressing to acute flaccid paralysis.

Findings:

Brucellar serology confirmed the diagnosis of neurobrucellosis.
Nerve conduction studies revealed a proximal radiculopathy.
The patient showed significant improvement with specific antimicrobial therapy.

Implications:

Highlights the importance of considering neurobrucellosis in pediatric cases of meningitis and paralysis.
