Summary

Summary:
- Forty-three primary cerebral lymphomas (PCL) were histologically analyzed. The Updated Kiel Classification was applicable to only 20 tumors; the remaining 23 were classified as small-cell (SC) or large-cell (LC) blastic PCL.
- LC PCL exhibited a dense, tumor-like pattern, while SC PCL showed an inflammation-like pattern with reactive glial and T-lymphocytic cells.
- EBV genome was detected in all 3 AIDS cases but none of the 40 immunocompetent cases. HHV6 was found in 2 immunocompetent cases.
Impact:
- The Updated Kiel Classification is not suitable for the majority of PCL cases.
