Researchers found a strong surface chelate effect when copper ions (Cu2+) adsorbed onto a self-assembled monolayer of 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (MHA). This surface chelation is significantly more effective than in solution, highlighting the importance of ligand arrangement.
