Abstract:
Nurse staffing and scheduling systems have been a significant challenge for operations researchers, industrial engineers, and system developers for many decades. The purpose of this paper is to discuss historical approaches to workload measurement, nurse staffing and personnel scheduling, and to predict possible future directions for nurse staffing and scheduling systems.
