Abstract:
Patients who have a stoma formed as the result of an emergency procedure are not only more prone to complications, but also may find it more difficult to adjust to their new status. This article describes the difficulties faced by one patient in such circumstances, and highlights how cooperation between community and specialist nursing services helped the patient not only adjust but also become self-caring.
