Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Cardiac Surgery

Background:

  • Left ventricular pseudoaneurysm (LV pseudoaneurysm) is a rare but serious complication following myocardial infarction.
  • Prompt diagnosis and surgical intervention are crucial for managing LV pseudoaneurysms.

Observation:

  • A 62-year-old male presented with dyspnea and palpitations 6 months post-anterior myocardial infarction.
  • Echocardiography and ventriculography confirmed LV pseudoaneurysm and ventricular dysfunction.
  • Coronary angiography revealed left anterior descending artery occlusion.

Findings:

  • Successful resection of the LV pseudoaneurysm was performed.
  • The ventricular defect was repaired using the Dor remodeling ventriculoplasty technique.
  • Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of pseudoaneurysm.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • This case demonstrates the feasibility and success of surgical repair for LV pseudoaneurysm.
  • The Dor technique offers a viable option for ventricular reconstruction in such cases.
  • Early surgical management can lead to favorable patient outcomes.
