Abstract:
Using BEIR V risk estimates and age-specific population dose estimates, we estimate that approximately 12% of leukemias may be attributable to diagnostic x-rays. Earlier estimates were markedly lower (< or = 1%) because of their use of earlier risk coefficients, different dose rate effectiveness factors, and, in one case, a methodological error.
