[Status of the family physician in ambulatory surgery]

Due to progress in anesthesia and new operating techniques, ambulatory surgery is advancing. The family doctor attends to the preoperative examination, the immediate postoperative care, the subsequent treatment and rehabilitation. To grant interdisciplinary collaboration, the hospital must establish exact instructions for preliminary examination and after-treatment as well as organize regular postgraduate meetings, thus intensifying relations between the family doctor and the surgeon.
